Chapter 7

The nursemaid quietly raised her eyes and confirmed that Consort Kang did not look displeased, so she boldly asked, “Does Your Highness want to hold Little Highness?”

Seeing the little prince so chubby and adorable, like a soft little dumpling, Kang Yuyi did not hesitate and took him into her arms.

The little prince was born on Lantern Festival this year, and now it was late May. At only five months old, he felt heavy in her arms, probably weighing around twenty pounds.

Despite not being familiar with Kang Yuyi, the little prince showed no signs of discomfort. Instead, he waved his little hands and feet energetically, as if trying to express his fondness for her.

The attendants were astonished to see Kang Yuyi holding the little prince so affectionately for the first time. They quickly flattered her, saying, “Your Highness and Little Highness are indeed mother and child; look how much he likes you!”

Kang Yuyi, momentarily stunned, fixed her gaze on the chubby face in her arms, trying to discern something from his appearance.

She finally realized why the little one looked so familiar. It was simply a smaller version of herself…

She had not only become a consort but had also had a child!

Heaven above, she was still just a 15 or 16-year-old girl!

Seeing such a chubby son made Kang Yuyi feel that her hope of returning to the Qin residence was becoming increasingly remote…

The Empress Dowager, having completed her duties in the small Buddhist hall, heard that Consort Kang was in the east wing and, after some thought, went straight back to her private quarters to rest.

It was rare for Consort Kang to actively visit the child, so the Empress Dowager decided to give them some time alone.

The current Empress Dowager, Cui was once the Qin Wangfei and the mother of the current Emperor.

Seven years ago, in October of the 31st year of Yongfeng’s reign, Emperor Yongfeng passed away at the age of fifty-nine.

Excluding those who died young, Emperor Yongfeng had five sons and two daughters, with only two sons and one daughter surviving him in his later years.

They were the second son, Prince Qin born to the original Empress, the fifth son, Prince Chu born to Consort Hui, and the second princess born to the subsequent Empress.

The subsequent Empress is now the Empress Dowager, and the second princess is the Grand Princess married into the Pei family.

After the untimely death of his carefully cultivated eldest son, Zuijun, Emperor Yongfeng was deeply saddened and did not establish a new heir for over ten years.

It was not until his death that he issued an edict appointing his second son, Prince Qin as the new ruler.

Unfortunately, Qin Wangfu died less than a year after ascending the throne due to a sudden illness.

Fortunately, Emperor Yongfeng had appointed his eldest son, Li Yuanheng as the shizi on the day of his accession.

Li Yuanheng then naturally became the new emperor, taking the era name Yuanxi. It is now his fifth year on the throne.

When the eunuchs reported that Consort Kang had gone to Renshou Palace, the emperor had already finished reading the morning’s petitions.

He had ordered an early report on recent events around Consort Kang, with all matters, big and small, from the Palace of Lu Hua being reported.

However, the reports showed nothing out of the ordinary.

The only notable issue was the disagreement between the Grand Princess and Consort Kang at the Lotus Appreciation Banquet the previous day.

The emperor was aware that her sudden docility and calmness were unusual.

Indeed, this change in Kang Yuyi was not necessarily a bad thing and might even be considered positive.

After all, the previous Kang Yuyi had been overly clingy.

From the moment they first consummated their relationship seven years ago, she had been unusually passionate about their intimate affairs.

Every night, she took the initiative to seduce him and constantly sought his affection.

He had always been very disciplined, avoiding women entirely and regarded their affairs as crude and despicable beneath him.

However, Kang Yuyi’s relentless seduction techniques had been overwhelming.

After a long period of contemplation, the emperor abruptly stood up and walked towards the east Renshou Palace.

“His Majesty has arrived!” The distinctive sharp voice of the inner eunuch announced outside the east wing.

The palace attendants hurriedly knelt down in unison and performed a grand salute, “We respectfully welcome Your Majesty.”

Kang Yuyi struggling to hold the chubby child, had not yet reacted to the need for a salute when she saw the emperor raise his hand and say, “No need for formalities.”

The emperor, dressed in a dark-colored dragon robe with gold embroidery and wearing a jade crown, was tall, robust, and carried an imposing presence.

Just by standing there, he exuded an aloofness that made him seem

unapproachable.

Yet, despite the emperor’s imposing and cold demeanor, last night he had been beneath her, carefully and attentively pleasuring her, making audible smacking sounds as he did so.

And the low, muffled groans he made as he thrust vigorously after penetrating her.

His tall, powerful bronze body was intertwined with her pale, delicate, and voluptuous form, locked in an intense embrace…

Thinking about the intense scene from last night, Kang Yuyi’s heart involuntarily trembled, and her fair, jade-like face flushed with a deep crimson.

Since the birth of his eldest son, the emperor has paid great attention to this long-awaited child.

Although the child is kept in the Empress Dowager’s Renshou Palace, he visits at least every other day and personally inquires about how the nursemaids and caretakers look

after him.

The Emperor’s eyes flickered slightly as he watched the close interaction between mother and son.

Then he reached out his large hand and took the soft, chubby, and adorable little baby from Kang Yu Yi’s arms.

However, the eldest prince, who is rarely held by his beloved mother, was unwilling to switch from her soft and fragrant embrace to his father’s hard chest.

He pouted in grievance, his little round face scrunched up, as if he was about to burst into tears.

The Emperor’s strong hands gripped the chubby little prince’s armpits and expertly lifted him high into the air to amuse him.

The Emperor’s actions in teasing the child seemed very practiced, as if he had done it countless times.

The little chubby child was easily appeased, quickly changing his expression to one of pure joy. He danced around, laughing with a sound like silver bells.

Kang Yu Yi was so surprised that her lips parted slightly.

Having grown up in the Qin royal residence, she rarely saw Qin Shizi. Everyone in the residence knew that since he was old enough to understand, Qin Shizi had always been reserved and expressionless, never showing his emotions.

Even after she was appointed by the Qin Wangfei to be the maid, she only ever saw him as a dignified, distant and unattainable figure.

As it was nearing the time for His Highness the Crown Prince to be fed and take a nap, the nurses and grandmothers took the bold step of offering to carry the Crown Prince into the inner quarters for care.

Meanwhile, in the Renshou Palace, a senior maid mentioned that the Empress Dowager had already returned to her quarters to rest and could not meet with the Imperial Consort and the others.

So the Emperor and Kang Yu Yi left Renshou Palace, walking one after the other.

Originally, the purpose of the visit to Renshou Palace was to meet the Empress Dowager and, incidentally, to inquire about the whereabouts of their parents. Unexpectedly, not only did they fail to see the Empress Dowager, but they also ended up with a plump, chubby son…

In her daze, Kang Yu Yi didn’t notice that the Emperor had stopped in front of her and accidentally bumped into his solid chest.

The Emperor, having practiced martial arts for many years, was as solid as a rock, and his dragon robe carried a faint scent of ambergris that lingered around Kang Yu Yi’s nose.

She instantly blushed deeply, her cheeks turning crimson, and quickly took a step back.

When she instinctively looked up, she met his deep, bottomless black eyes, which seemed to scrutinize her like a hawk.

Kang Yu Yi’s heart suddenly felt weak.
