Chapter 37

The next morning Kang Yu Yi was rudely awakened when the Emperor himself lifted her out of bed while she was still half-asleep. Supported by Zisu, Qingzhu, and other palace maids, she was hurriedly washed up and dressed.

It wasn’t until she boarded the carriage for the trip to the nearby paddock that she fully woke up.

As she lifted the brocade curtain of the carriage to look outside, she saw the Emperor riding a majestic golden-brown blood horse. In the early morning light, he rode with a relaxed yet commanding presence, matching the carriage’s pace.

Kang Yu Yi couldn’t help but be captivated by the Emperor’s strong, commanding figure in his dark dragon-patterned riding outfit. His powerful build and authoritative demeanor on the horse were striking.

While the Emperor rode ahead, Kang Yu Yi sat alone in the spacious carriage, accompanied only by Zisu and Qingzhu.

Zisu, noticing her distracted gaze, chuckled and asked, “Does Your Highness want to ride a horse?”

Kang Yu Yi was startled by the question and remained silent.

Zisu continued with a teasing smile, “In the past, whenever we visited the paddock, His Majesty always rode with you. If you wish to ride, you could ask the Emperor once we arrive.”

The idea of riding a horse seemed daunting to Kang Yu Yi….

After an hour of slow travel, they reached the paddock campsite.

The family of the Laku tribe chief having arrived earlier waited on horseback and performed a grand salute upon seeing the Emperor’s carriage.

The Emperor acknowledging their greeting with a nod, dismounted and approached the carriage to assist Kang Yu Yi.

Yan Duo observing the Emperor’s attentiveness to the Noble Consort and feeling slightly irritated saw Kang Yu Yi eating local milk cakes with evident enjoyment.

Suddenly, Yan Duo proposed, “Why don’t Your Highness join me for a ride?”

Taken aback and recalling the previous day’s events with the Laku princess, Kang Yu Yi hesitated and responded coldly, “I am not skilled in riding and archery.”

Yan Duo clearly pleased with her own abilities boasted, “In that case, watch how I ride.”

Curious to see the northern women’s riding skills, Kang Yu Yi followed her outside.

Yan Duo mounted her horse with practiced ease, expertly handling the whip and circling Kang Yu Yi several times.

Kang Yu Yi watched in awe as Yan Duo displayed her impressive skills, her pride evident.

After a few more laps, Yan Duo dismounted and proudly declared, “This dynasty rose to prominence through riding and archery. The consorts of the Great Ancestor and the Great Emperor were all skilled in these arts. It doesn’t suit someone as delicate as Your Highness to be unskilled.”

Just then, the Emperor returned on horseback. It was unclear whether he had overheard Yan Duo’s remarks.

With a neutral expression, he lifted Kang Yu Yi onto the horse, holding her securely in front of him.

“Ah!” Kang Yu Yi squeaked in surprise.

The Emperor adjusted his hold on her, taking the reins with both hands as he guided the horse toward a broader meadow.

Kang Yu Yi’s heart raced as she clung to the Emperor, too terrified to look down. The horse’s height made her feel dizzy.

As the Emperor spurred the horse into a faster pace, Kang Yu Yi’s fear intensified.

“Your Majesty, I’m scared…” she whimpered, her voice trembling as her eyes welled up with tears.

“What are you afraid of? I will protect you,” the Emperor said in a calm, reassuring tone.

“It’s so high I’m afraid I’ll fall…” Kang Yu Yi’s body shook with fear, her voice tinged with distress.

The Emperor frowned slightly, tightening his grip on the reins with one hand while using his other arm to encircle her waist securely.

His strength was evident as he managed the powerful horse with ease. He pulled her closer, his hand moving slightly to press against her soft curves.

“Are you still afraid?” he asked softly.

Held securely in his strong arms, Kang Yu Yi’s fear subsided slightly, and she responded, “I’m not afraid anymore. Thank you, Your Majesty!”

The Emperor then tightened the reins, increasing the speed to enhance the thrill of the ride.

Kang Yu Yi’s plump body swayed with every movement of the horse, and her full breasts jiggled with each bump. The Emperor riding behind her couldn’t help but notice her alluring movements which reminded him of their more intimate moments.

The Emperor scanned their surroundings to ensure they were alone. His hand initially resting on her waist moved up to grasp her breasts firmly.

“Your Majesty, it hurts…” Kang Yu Yi gasped, startled by the sudden pressure.

Her voice already sweet and soft now carried a note of pain that was even more alluring.

The Emperor, feeling his own reaction to her cries slightly reddened but tried to maintain composure. He loosened his grip but kept her close.

Kang Yu Yi’s cheeks flushed as she noticed his focused expression, assuming his actions were unintentional. She tried to focus on the view instead.

“I’ll show you the true beauty of the Seaside,” the Emperor said eagerly.

He pulled the reins tighter, urging the horse into a faster gallop.

Kang Yu Yi was bombarded by the rushing wind, unable to open her eyes, and could only hear the roar of the wind in her ears.

After a while, when the horse slowed, Kang Yu Yi finally dared to open her eyes.

“Your Majesty, is this what’s meant by ‘The sky is pale and the fields are vast. The wind blows the grass low and you see cattle and sheep’?” Kang Yu Yi asked, excitement in her voice as she hugged the Emperor’s strong arm and shook it.

Having recently learned this poem in preparation for writing to the Crown Prince, Kang Yu Yi was thrilled to see it come to life. The Emperor had arranged for a maid to teach her to read, making this moment even more special.
