Friends With Benefits
Yu Huan was not very interested in this blind date.
According to her friend, Cen Si, this person had a high income and a good personality. These qualities matched her very well. In any case, Yu Huan didn’t have a date that weekend, so she persuaded Yu Huan to give him a chance and at least have dinner together.
The place they were dining at was a Chinese restaurant.
It was very close to Yu Huan’s apartment. She did not need to spend too much time in traffic. That was the reason why Yu Huan agreed to this blind date.
Remember to dress up nicely, her friend told her.
Out of basic respect for her blind date, Yu Huan had put on a full face of makeup, washed her hair and left her place ppropriately. It was exactly 7:55 when she arrived at the restaurant.
There are still five minutes until the meeting time.
“My friend made a reservation.” Yu Huan told the front desk Cen Si’s telephone number.
“Just a moment.” The front receptionist entered the number in the computer. After a while, she looked up and said, “Table 15.”
Yu Huan walked in the direction shown to her. She saw a table near the window with a man sitting in the shadow of the wooden ceiling beam. *:・゚✧*:・゚✧ ??? ??? ???? ?? .??? ✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
His hair was thick, his features from the side were simple. He was at least 10 cm higher than the average person through her visual inspection. From the way he looked, he was not bad. He was much better than the “crooked melon and split dates” her relatives had introduced to her before.
But Yu Huan didn’t have any expectations for this date.
For those who were busy and liked staying at home, blind dates could be a way to start a new relationship. However, Yu Huan did not expect to meet anyone through this form of matchmaking.
If there’s no connection, there’s no romance.
But the older you are, the more complicated the contradictions hidden under your dulled expectations are : it was hard to fall in love, it was hard to be a match, and it was even harder to spend your life with your lover forever.
Love and marriage were far less reassuring than the bank cards of a woman like her. She had been in love before but was still single and was about to enter her thirties
But she didn’t show it.
“Mr. She went to the table. She stood opposite of the man and greeted him with a smile..
“Miss… Yu?” The man looked up at Yan, with a flash of surprise in his eyes. He stood up politely, “Miss Yu’s photo is very beautiful, but I didn’t think you would be more beautiful in person.”
Half flattery, half sincerity.
“Thank you.” Yu Huan was not surprised. She just smiled and said, “I’ve kept you waiting.”
She sat down and ordered.
Generally speaking, when a man and a woman meet for the first time, they usually talk about irrelevant nonsense: the weather, celebrities, news about society… By talking about topics that the other person was interested in, they could peek into each other’s personalities and values to determine whether they should have a second date.
The conversations were even more important when it came to blind dates.
“I heard that Miss Yu is a lawyer, so do you usually have weekends off?” Of course the man in front of Yu Huan didn’t wait long to ask this question.
This was the most common miconception people had of lawyers. The image they had of lawyers came from TV dramas. They thought that this group of people were all as bright and beautiful as on TV, with high income and free time. But in reality
“No.” Yu Huan then explained, “When we are busy, we pretty much work 12 hour days, 6 days a week. And we are usually on business trips.”
“You’re that busy? Are you a civil attorney or something?”
“…” Yu Huan. “I am not a prosecutor.”
“?”
“I do not take people to court. I mainly provide legal advice to companies, do legal review of daily affairs and business negotiations.”
“Oh… so you help companies, then your income should be very high, right?”
“It’s alright.”
…
After an hour, Yu Huan came out of the restaurant. The man on the blind date walked her to the door of her community and waved goodbye to her.
He probably calculated how long it was going to be. As soon as Yu Huan returned to her apartment, he sent a text message to her asking, “Are you home?”
“I am,” Yu Huan replied.
After waiting a while, the man sent a message again: “Rest early.”
There was another paragraph after that. It pretty much said that today’s date was very pleasant, and then he tactfully expressed that they were not suitable for each other, but he hoped to be friends.
Yu Huan didn’t feel surprised when she looked at the message—this was not the first time.
Men in the dating market who were looking for a marriage partner were more or less looking for a woman they could successfully pursue. Yu Huan was a beautiful woman with a career where she dealt with people who were rich. It was difficult for ordinary men to believe they could marry her.
When they rejected her, they would also express their desire to be friends. In addition to being polite to not embarrass her, half of them were truly sincere—after all, people were always bound to encounter something troublesome in life. It was good to have a lawyer friend give some advice when it was something important.
Yu Huan replied with the same type of politeness as him: “Thank you for today, I will invite you to dinner next time.”
After sending the message, she put her mobile phone aside and went into the bathroom.
When she got out of the shower, the blind date man replied, “Don’t mention it ?” Aside from that message, WeChat showed that there were two more unread messages. One from Cen Si: “How was the blind date?”
Yu Huan took a facial treatment packet out of the refrigerator. She applied it and called Cen Si.
When the call connected, Cen Si anxiously asked how the blind date went. Yu Huan simply reported everything that happened. After Cen Si heard it, she was silent for a while and said, “It’s because he has no eyes.”
Yu Huan didn’t mean to be arrogant. What she didn’t say was that although the man’s looks were acceptable and his income was good, he was too direct in how he talked. There was also his slightly chaotic demeanor and lack of focus when talking to her—his IQ did not seem to be too high.
She didn’t like this man.
“By the way, who did you add on WeChat?” Seeing Yu Huan’s silence, Cen Si asked again.
“Who?” Yu Huan.
“Lu… Lu something. I forgot his name… He’s Lu Lin’s colleague, you met him at our wedding…”
Yu Huan then remembered that there was such a person—she did not remember his name, but he did ask Cen Si to convey his positive impression of her.
“Oh, are you talking about that little boy? If I remember correctly, you said that he was 95 years old. Isn’t it appropriate for an old cow to eat tender grass?”
“He’s only three years older, so it’s not a lot. Maybe it’s your destiny. Besides, even if it doesn’t work, it’s fine to just talk with him. It’s not good for you to be alone all the time.”
“What’s wrong with being alone?”
“… It’s not that being alone is bad,” Cen Si said. “Don’t you want to have a boyfriend?”
Her voice suddenly lowered. “If you haven’t had sex after a long time, it will affect your hormones.”
Yu Huan: “…”
She didn’t have a boyfriend, but who said that she wasn’t having sex?
Yu Huan raised her eyebrows and used her fingers to swipe the phone screen. On the lit screen, there was an unread message. The message was sent twenty minutes ago: “I got off the plane and will arrive at your home at about 11.”
