第 20 章
Invitation
Yu Huan woke up based on her usual set waking time. Meanwhile, Gao Yan was still asleep.
He was lying on the right side of the bed with half of his body covered with a clean blanket. He seemed to be sleeping soundly.
His face was also slightly frowned as he slept. His facial features were as sharp as the edge of a knife. She thought of yesterday when he might have used this expression to ask her for it lustfully
Yu Huan’s face could not stop emitting heat.
She carefully pulled the hair that was under his arm. She walked barefoot to the bathroom and put on yesterday’s clothes again.
The soreness of her legs made it a little uncomfortable to put on high heels. She still tried her best to not make any noise.
When she finally went out and got into the elevator, she relaxed and leaned back against the elevator wall with a soft sigh.
She was curious.
If she didn’t leave, how would Gao Yan react when he woke up?
They were not total strangers. They worked together and were connected—it would not be good if they were awkward with each other.
Thus, Yu Huan just left.
She met Gao Yan again. It was a few days later in Zhongyou Law Firm’s elevator.
Gao Yan was with Fred. The moment the elevator opened and she saw them, she could only pretend to greet them calmly.
“Good morning Mr. Gao. Good morning Fred.”
“Good morning.” Fred replied concisely, while Gao Yan only nodded slightly.
After Yu Huan entered the elevator, he looked at her through the door’s reflection, but only once. He turned away and continued to discuss a case with Fred.
Neither of them mentioned that chaotic night again.
Gao Yan was still the proud and cold Gao Yan, and Yu Huan was still the hard working Yu Huan.
Even if they stood next to each other, the people at the law firm would not think something was up between them, let alone guess that they had spent a night together.
Because of this, a month later, when Fred decided to entrust the daily workload for Leshang to his subordinates because he was too busy, he first thought of Yu Huan.
At that time, Yu Huan had been in Zhongyou for three years.
She had enough experience and had more free time than others in the law firm.
The daily work for Leshang was mainly reviewing important business contracts and processes. Yu Huan needed to spend half a day to one day during the week at Leshang’s office—which inevitably meant more meetings with Gao Yan.
But even so, apart from work related matters, they usually just said hello and nothing extra.
One day, Yu Huan went to Leshang’s office as usual.
She was washing a cup when Tang An from the Sales Department came to find her. He said that there were two concert tickets left from the Sales Department, and asked her if she was interested.
Tang An said that people in his department were not free this weekend, and he happened to see her listening to the band’s songs one time, so he came to ask her about it.
But it was just two tickets. No more, and no less. It clearly exposed his intentions.
Of course, Yu Huan understood, and she still nodded and agreed.
Since Tang An got her to go with him, he left happily. Yu Huan watched him go out. Just after drinking a cup of coffee, she looked up and saw Gao Yan passing by nearby.
The breakroom in Leshang’s Legal Affairs Department was semi-open. People did not usually pass through the hallway, and the partition door design did not allow the room to be soundproof.
He must have heard that, Yu Huan thought.
However, Leshang did not have any regulations prohibiting office romances, and she was not an employee at Leshang.
“Mr. Gao.” Yu Huan said hello and as she carried her coffee around Gao Yan.
Gao Yan did not say hello back to her. “Are you going to the concert this weekend?”
Oh, he did hear.
Yu Huan had to nod.
Gao Yan looked at her and said, “You only come here once a day every week, so you might not know how many ex-girlfriends Tang An has in the Sales Department.”
This was a blatant reminder of how flirtatious Tang An was.
But Yu Huan had heard about this.
She was not surprised.
Gao Yan slightly did not believe it. “You don’t seem to mind?”
Yu Huan nodded. “Yeah.”
It had been three months since she broke up with Teng Senwen.
In the past three months, she had gone on dates with many people: blind dates, online dates who were good at conversing on dating apps, and people who knew her for work reasons and had feelings for her.
She was not rushing to fall in love or get married.
It was just as Gao Yan had said, if a man’s conditions were good and he didn’t plan to settle down by the time he reached his late thirties, then he was probably not reliable.
At that moment in her life, she was more free, so she wanted to see more about how unreliable those men were.
During the first date, the man would quietly show off his wealth. But on the second date, he would pretend to be poor. Some would even ask her to travel together after only going on a date once or twice. It was all caking1…
During these dates, Yu Huan kept a sharp eye and saw men using all kinds of dating methods like how she had expected.
It was like observing an experiment.
She gradually took it as a way to spend time after leaving her dull work. If the other side met her preferences in everything, she didn’t mind playing around with them…
After all, her life was as still as water. It always needed something exciting to stir up a little momentum.
“I don’t mind,” Yu Huan said frankly, “It’s just to pass the time. His ex-girlfriends don’t need to worry about me.”
“To pass the time?” Gao Yan questioned, and his eyebrow slightly rose. When she was about to leave, he suddenly stopped her again. “Are the tickets from Tang An the leftovers tickets from the Sales Department?”
Yu Huan: “Huh? Oh… yes.”
“All the tickets for the Sales Department are on Sunday,” Gao Yan said as he walked towards Yu Huan until the distance between them was less than half a foot. He stopped, leaning slightly as he lowered his head to Yu Huan’s ear. “I have two tickets for Saturday in the third row. It’s more suitable if you just want to ‘pass the time’.”
Yu Huan always tried to buy tickets for the first day of the concert.
The singer’s condition on the first day was better than the second day. They would have enough time to rest for the first day, while the second day would be more or less affected by the performance on the first day.
Gao Yan’s third row seats were generally the best place for the concert. Sometimes having money was not necessarily enough to buy these seats.
Yu Huan turned her head and looked at Gao Yan, who didn’t look like he was joking. After a long silence, she said in a slightly regretful tone, “It seems like I can only decline Manager Tang.”
