Calm

In the evening, the negotiators from the client’s company met with Yu Huan and held a meeting to sort out the core issues of this negotiation and clarify the base clauses and special precautions.

The next day, during the negotiation, Chen Yilin behaved to avoid dragging their feet. He wore a suit and tie, which made him quite presentable. The tie though was sort of awkward.

“What knot did you tie?” Yu Huan asked him.

“I don’t know, I found it online,” Chen Yilin said. “I think it’s… it’s called a cross knot?”

“Are you sure?” Yu Huan’s lip corner twitched.

“Yeah?” Chen Yilin looked down for a moment, but also felt that it was wrong. He untied his tie and tied it again.

He tried again and again, but it always seemed like he couldn’t get it right. Yu Huan couldn’t look at him any longer. She walked up to him and took the tie in his hand.

Yu Huan folded his tie around with her fingers and quickly formed a standard and pretty knot.

While she was doing that, Chen Yilin looked down and tried to learn it, but felt it was a bit too complicated. Finally, he could only look at the finished tie knot and laughed foolishly. He took a photo to put on Moments.

The initial negotiations on the first day went smoothly.

After it was over, Yu Huan took Chen Yilin back to the hotel and taught him to sort out the meeting minutes.

When it came to this, Chen Yilin was rather quick. After a while, he completed the task as requested by Yu Huan. Then he began to respond to comments from his Moments about the photos he posted this morning.

His WeChat was synced to the computer, which made typing more convenient.

He responded to his Moments, opened a WeChat message box for a chat, and even clicked on  the video option to show off his professional attire to the person on the camera.

Yu Huan came back from taking a call on the balcony and happened to catch a glimpse of the woman on the computer screen, who was about her age. She was very beautiful and strangely familiar.

“Lawyer Yu, you’re back.” Chen Yilin saw Yu Huan and quickly spoke to the person on the camera, “Sister Feifei, I won’t talk to you anymore. I need to work now.”

“Then let’s chat again next time.” The person on the other end of the call smiled and said goodbye.

The voice sounded familiar to Yu Huan.

“Your friend?” Yu Huan asked when Chen Yilin ended the video. She wondered if she had seen her somewhere.

“You mean Sister Feifei?” Chen Yilin switched the desktop back to the meeting minutes. “… I guess she’s a friend, but to be more exact, she’s my uncle’s ex girlfriend.”

His muttering was not too loud.

Yu Huan suddenly remembered that the beautiful woman in the video just now was the woman she accidentally bumped into when the woman went to Leshang to break up with Gao Yan.

At dinner, Yu Huan looked through Chen Yilin’s Moments.

There was no caption, just a selfie of him in professional attire.

Yu Huan gave Chen Yilin’s post a like, and then spoke in a “casual” tone, “The beautiful woman you were just talking to, did you say she was your uncle’s ex girlfriend?”

“Yeah,” Chen Yilin said. “Although they broke up, Sister Feifei is very nice, and we still keep in touch.”

“Oh.” Yu Huan nodded. She continued to gossip, “Your uncle’s ex girlfriend is very beautiful and looks like she’s a good match for him. Why did you break up?”

“I don’t know.” Chen Yilin shook his head. “People say that my uncle was dumped, but later my grandmother tried to get them back together, and my uncle didn’t seem to be very interested.”

“Your grandmother tried to get them back together?” The light in Yu Huan’s eyes sank. “So, she’s met the family?”

“What can I say? Sister Feifei is a doctor. She knew my grandmother first and she was introduced to my uncle by my grandmother. I don’t know if she’s met my grandfather. Anyway, everyone in my family has met her…” Chen Yilin recalled and suddenly sighed. “Actually, Sister Feifei is really nice. Before my grandmother left, she was still talking about how she hoped that Sister Feifei and my uncle would get back together, but it never came true, which is a pity.”

“Oh…” Yu Huan lowered her eyes and agreed, “It’s a pity.”

But that tone sounded insincere to her.

After dinner, when Yu Huan returned to her room, she finished her work and began to think of when Chen Yilin said about “Sister Feifei”.

Although she only took a look at her for a few seconds, she was really beautiful.

She had fair skin and delicate facial features, she would raise her chin slightly when speaking. She was proud but calm, as if she had been pampered from childhood to adulthood and had a confidence that she was worthy of all the best things in the world.

Then, somehow, Yu Huan thought of the equally beautiful but somewhat reserved Liang Shiyun, the transfer girl in high school who asked her to write some love letters.

To be honest, apart from how they had a common trait of being beautiful, their personalities were vastly different.

What type of person did Gao Yan like?

She believed that Gao Yan would not give her an answer to this.

Just like how  she asked him if he still remembered their classmates from high school, and frankly asked him how he pursued Liang Shiyun.

Gao Yan just carried on lightly, and had a reluctance to mention it.

Sometimes Yu Huan couldn’t help but wonder if he would talk calmly about her in the future,  or maybe she wasn’t even qualified to be talked about because no one knew their secret and no one would ask about them.

The ambiguity over the past few days made her feel that she and Gao Yan had a different relationship.

But on second thought, he didn’t say anything about it and did not agree to anything.

They were still friends with benefits. He had done more intimate things with her, but he still had not given her that special title.

She was still not qualified to ask about his past, nor was she qualified to openly define their relationship.

At the thought of this…

Her heart seemed to have been twisted into a corner, producing a heavy and bitter pain. When Gao Yan sent a message asking about the negotiations that  day, Yu Huan laid in bed, not wanting to reply at all.
