Unfair

Why would she write him a love letter?

They had never even exchanged a few words.

But what if she was like one of those girls who want to become “experienced”?

After that rainy event, he felt that her eyes would stop on him while they were out in the open, either intentionally or unintentionally

What if she was interested in him, too?

Back then, Yan Yuhua was diagnosed with cancer during Gao Yan’s second year of high school. The family business had to rely more on Gao Cheng. Gao Lan and her husband were planning to go abroad as soon as Gao Yan entered college, but they had to shelve their plans to immigrate again.

New conflict rose in the family.

The days passed with chaos. Gao Yan never thought of falling in love.

But if Yu Huan was really interested in him, he thought that he should clearly refuse while trying to speak in a gentle way.

How should he say it?

Gao Yan, who was experienced in this aspect, was awkward.

What he never expected was that when he was full of these thoughts and had gone to the place in the love letter, he met the new transfer student.

“Did you write the love letter?” He let out a huge sigh. Unexpectedly, he felt a faint moment of disappointment.

“… Yes,” the girl admitted without confidence.

“Really? Your writing skills are very good,” he said in praise.

She became more and more embarrassed, and finally confessed, “The love letter was written by someone else.”

“But my feelings are real,” she emphasized, carefully taking note of his expression. “You didn’t come to see me just because the love letter was written well, did you?”

“What if I say yes?”

“Haha…” The girl was somewhat surprised and sighed after a while. “Then you can treat me to dinner, and I’ll tell you who wrote it.”

Even though the girl had a ghostwriter, she achieved success by being honest.

Gao Yan invited her to dinner and found out  during the conversation that the payment for writing the letter was actually just a week’s worth of living expenses. For the first time in his life, he realized what it meant to not know whether to laugh or cry.

As a result of inviting the girl to dinner, Gao Yan received more and more love letters.

It was like everyone was embracing the next best way to approach him. Even if they couldn’t get into a relationship with him, they could still have a meal together.

During that time, Gao Yan didn’t open his mailbox or touch his desk drawer. He completely ignored those letters, but someone would still stop him on the road to give him a love letter or confess on the spot.

After a while, Gao Yan felt bothered.

A friend gave him a bad idea, “If you can’t bear it, then I’ll tell you two ideas: You either humiliate a girl while she confesses to you to set an example to the other girls, or you find a girlfriend among all the girls who confess to you, and ask her to help you block the crushes.”

Of course, Gao Yan did not do that.

Although he did not believe he was an upright person, he could never do anything that would intentionally hurt others.

Until Lin Su showed up.

Lin Su was Yu Huan’s classmate and friend.

Gao Yan noticed Lin Su from the start due to his curiosity about the kind of friend Yu Huan would make when she was a lone wolf.

After observing for a while, he realized that Lin Su was the one who initiated the friendship with Yu Huan.

Unlike Yu Huan, Lin Su was one of those people who were particularly outgoing.

She was white, thin and tall. From his point of view, she looked extremely pretty. However, due to how she dressed up well and was a flirt, she had many pursuers in her grade.

She was a bit of a green tea, but it’s not a bad thing for Yu Huan to have a friend with complementary personalities.

Gao Yan had this impression of her until one day, he saw Lin Su throw away the cakes Yu Huan gave her into the trash can.

“Susu, why did you throw away the food that she gave you?”

“Who would want to eat something so sour?”

“Yeah, but I thought you were good friends with her.”

“Good? Me and her? Come on, she’s so dirty, who would be good friends with her?”

“Then why did you get close to her?”

“She has good grades. If I don’t try to get close to her, then how can I get her notes and ask her to help me study before exams?”

Lin Su didn’t notice him right away, so she and her friend talked about Yu Huan openly while passing by him.

Gao Yan looked at the cake in the trash can.

It was Yu Huan’s favorite, sour jujube cake made by her grandmother.

Before she gave the cake to Lin Su, she carefully covered it with something to avoid letting the cold affect the texture of the glutinous rice.

Who knew that her sincerity would be trampled on.

Gao Yan coldly stared as Lin Su left. A few days later he was playing basketball, while Lin Su eagerly watched him while holding water. He walked up to her and asked, “Do you have a towel?”

It was said that men took the initiative, women would follow in taking the initiative.

On that day, he only gave him a slight nudge. Later, Lin Su would show up in front of him from time to time. After another nudge, she took the chance to confess to him.

And he agreed.

Looking back, he was actually not good to Lin Su at all.

He would always make excuses or ignore her. Lin Su was actually aware that he was not good to her, but she always bragged about him to the people around her because of her vanity.

There was one time when he heard her brag to Yu Huan about how considerate he was.

“Is that Yu Huan your friend? I didn’t expect you to have a friend like that,” he commented.

He wasn’t implying anything, but Lin Su thought he was trash talking Yu Huan and pointing out how strange and antisocial Yu Huan was.

She didn’t defend her “friend” at all, and reluctantly explained that she was just a classmate.

As soon as he asked about Yu Huan, she felt humiliated. Thus, she gradually became less associated with Yu Huan.

By the time it was his third year of high school, Lin Su was his girlfriend for a year and a half.

Upon graduation, Lin Su chose a university in another province. Gao Yan chose A University in a neighboring city because his mother’s condition had worsened.

After learning about it, Lin Su ran to ask him why he didn’t apply to the school they had agreed on before, and why he insisted on going to a different place than her. She also asked him if he knew how hard it was to be in a long-distance relationship.

He only replied lightly, “Let’s break up.”

“Break up?” Lin Su looked at him with some disbelief. “Are you breaking up with me?”

Although she was not treated well for more than a year, the benefits she had enjoyed as Gao Yan’s girlfriend were exceptional.

She had inevitably grown to have more affection towards him.

She was suddenly going through a breakup, so she was completely confused.

“So you’re breaking up with me? What did you even think of me?” She asked.

“What I thought of you?”

Gao Yan looked at her with a smirk and asked, “What about the other classmates who treated you well? What did you take their kindness for?”

“What do you mean? What other classmates? Are you jealous?”

She obviously didn’t understand his words.

And he didn’t explain himself either. Just like she did that time, she turned around and threw away the milk tea she had brought him into the garbage can and left.

Gao Yan was not a kind person, he was just kind to kind people.
