Extra 1.1 - Galaxy Part 1

Extra 1 – Galaxy Part 1

“Do you have anything else you want to buy? Watches, cufflinks, and things like that.”

Yu Huan stood at the door of a luxury goods store and stared at the man next to her.

After nearly three months of dating, it was Gao Yan’s birthday.

When they were friends with benefits, gifts were out of line. Now that they were officially in a relationship, Yu Huan decided to give Gao Yan something.

“There’s nothing else.” Gao Yan shook his head.

Yu Huan was troubled by how his tone did not change.

He really had everything.

Food, housing, and transportation including assistants and drivers.

Seasonal clothes, including neckties and cufflinks, were always matching based on brand stores helping with the selection.

Moreover, if she was to really give a gift, then a tie meant she had him tied up, and cufflinks were tasteless.

Yu Huan considered perfume, but it was like cufflinks, tasteless.

As for watches, cheap ones were not suitable for his status, and expensive ones were not suitable for her to afford.

She thought about it and didn’t know what to give.

“Your uncle’s birthday is soon. What do you think I should give him?”

Fortunately, Chen Yilin was there, and Yu Huan could ask for his help.

“Gift? I got a headache from that problem.” Chen Yilin was in the same troubling situation as Yu Huan..

In the past, when Chen Yilin was in school, Gao Yan would not accept gifts from him. Instead, the most he could do was tell him happy birthday.

This year, Gao Yan will be working. It would be his 30th birthday. It would be inappropriate for Chen Yilin, his nephew, to not do something.

“What do you think uncle needs?” Chen Yilin asked.

Yu Huan: “…”

She came to ask him for some advice, but why did he ask her to help him?

“What about your uncle’s ex girlfriends… What did they usually give?” Somehow, this question came out of Yu Huan’s mouth.

“Oh, his ex girlfriends? I only know about Sister Feifei and as for what she gave…” Chen Yilin’s eyes darted and he remembered after a while. “I think I remember. The year I first left the country, Sister Feifei asked me to find two books. I forgot the names, and I only remember that it was related to architecture. She asked me to find the original English version. She said it was a gift for my uncle. I heard that my uncle liked it a lot.”

Gao Yan studied architecture.

When he went out during the weekdays and encountered a unique building, he liked to carefully examine it.

Ling Fei’s gift was quite thoughtful.

Yu Huan remembered what Chen Yilin had said, and as she passed by the study, she had to go in.

The study was very large.

Behind the desk was a bookcase covering the whole wall. It had all kinds of books: management, law, celebrity biographies, calligraphy, psychology, and classics…

Gao Yan said that the majority of the books were bought by his assistants for decor. People like him, whose schedule was pretty much filled every day, rarely had a break to sit down and read a book.

Among the different books, Yu Huan did not see any books in English. Instead, she came across an album marked “Photos of Class 9, Grade 8, F Middle School”.

The album was placed a bit high.

Yu Huan reached for it on her tiptoes. As soon as she touched the photo album, it fell to the ground and an envelope came out.

The corners of the envelope had turned yellow.

There was no postage or delivery information.

The envelope was very light. Yu Huan rubbed it between her fingers for a moment. She guessed that there was only one piece of paper in it.

Is it an important letter?

The envelope was not sealed. It was open and she could easily take a look…

Yu Huan reached into the unsealed envelope. It contained a letter folded in half.

After so many years of being stored, the paper had changed somewhat. The delicate and beautiful handwriting written in blue and black ink had faded, but what was written could still be read.

“Dear Gao Yan

This is the 4th time this week, and the 12th time recently that I have thought of you. Whenever I am near you, my heart beats faster and faster, and my fingers tremble. My chest and mind are filled with joy.

I finally had to summon up the courage to write this letter to you.”

There was a deja vu feeling from the beginning.

Yu Huan carefully read, and sure enough… this was the love letter she wrote in the back.

How could he still have this love letter?

Her handwriting back then and now were somewhat different.

But did he know she wrote this? Did Chen Yilin tell him?

If he didn’t keep this love letter intentionally from back then, then he wouldn’t have it now even if Shen Yilin told him.

He must have kept it since he received it.

As for why, was he interested in who originally sent him the letter?

He probably was interested. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have agreed to meet that girl, but why weren’t they still together?

Or perhaps this letter was just a simple reminder of his youth.

Yu Huan was distracted by this unexpected love letter, and was somewhat absent-minded when Gao Yan approached her.

Gao Yan sensed something was wrong from her kiss and he asked her, “Are you having a problem with your work lately?”

“No.”

“Then what is it?”

“I…” Yu Huan hesitated. “Forget it.”

Gao Yan: “You can tell me anything.”

His gaze was serious and firm, but still gentle.

“What exactly do you like about me?” Yu Huan finally ended up asking. She slowly thought about it and then added, “What I mean is, you’ve had so many girlfriends… Am I… special to you? Are you serious about me?”
