Her Apartment

“Xiao Chu, it’s time to eat.” Fang Yuan interrupted Chu Xia’s thoughts.

The four of them sat down to eat.

Liang Shiyun’s stepfather was on a business trip, so it’s just the four of them for dinner.

“I heard that you have won several awards abroad in the past few years, and you have gained a lot.” During the dinner, Fang Yuan asked Chu Xia, “When are you going back this time?”

“I’m not leaving.” Chu Xia glanced at Liang Shiyun calmly from the corner of his eye. “I intend to stay.”

“That’s good, there are a lot of opportunities in the country now.” Fang Yuan nodded.

Then they chatted about the industry.

Liang Shiyun lowered her head to eat and didn’t interrupt. However, Fang Shiya wanted to interrupt, but unfortunately she couldn’t. She touched Liang Shiyun’s elbow, and asked her in a low voice, “Sister, how did your chat with the doctor last time go?”

“Which doctor?” Liang Shiyun was puzzled.

“The person our  auntie introduced to you last time,” Fang Shiya reminded her. Then she asked her with a smirk, “How is it going with him?”

“…” Liang Shiyun remembered that there was such a person.

She and that date only had a meal and exchanged WeChat messages. Then there was nothing else.

She was busy, and the guy was even busier than her. In fact, she had no intention of finding a partner, but because it would be embarrassing to her relatives, she couldn’t avoid it. What else could she do based on how the chat went?

Because Fang Yuan was also at the table, Liang Shiyun replied, “Good.”

“You don’t like him again?” Fang Shiya was able to interpret Liang Shiyun’s answer a long time ago.

Every time she said it was good, there was no result afterwards. The translation of “good” from Liang Shiyun was equivalent to “no feelings”.

“Sister, what do you like?” Fang Shiya spoke in a worried tone like an old mother.

Liang Shiyun didn’t bother to talk to her, so she directly stuffed her mouth with food. “Your favorite ribs, eat more.”

“Oh, I’m losing weight—” Fang Shiya exclaimed in disappointment, but then stopped in the middle. She returned the food to Liang Shiyun, “I ate so much, I can’t eat anymore.”

This immediately alarmed the other two people on the table.

Fang Yuan looked over and had a look to remind them that there was still a first at the table.

Fang Shiya quickly lowered her head and obediently continued to eat.

Fang Yuan glanced at Liang Shiyun again, and seemed to have thought of something. “By the way, about Dr. Cen, how is it going with him?”

“Good,” Liang Shiyun still said the same thing.

She said it was good every time, but it wasn’t in the end.

Fang Yuan frowned. “You’re not young anymore, you should pay close attention to these things and don’t be so picky.”

“Okay,” Liang Shiyun responded.

The rest of the meal was a little silent.

After the meal, Fang Yuan went to the kitchen to cut some fruits.

Liang Shiyun helped bring the bowls and chopsticks to the kitchen, and after cleaning up everything, she prepared to leave.

“It’s getting late, I should go back.” Seeing this, Chu Xia also got up and said goodbye to Fang Yuan, “Professor, please rest earlier, I will visit you again.”

They walked out of the building together.

It got dark early in winter, and after dinner, the sky outside was completely dark.

“At the dinner table just now, who was Dr. Cen the professor mentioned?” Chu Xia suddenly asked on the dimly lit path.

“… a blind date introduced by my family,” Liang Shiyun said.

“Oh,” Chu Xia responded. He said after a while, “If he’s a doctor then he should be quite busy.”

“Yeah…” Liang Shiyun nodded.

Chu Xia continued, “Also, the ratio of men to women in the hospital is unbalanced. I heard that relationships with them will be chaotic.”

It seemed to be a subtle reminder, but Liang Shiyun didn’t know how to respond.

Liang Shiyun’s phone rang suddenly. It was the driver calling, saying that there was something urgent at home and she had to rush back. He asked if another person from the company could come to pick her up.

“You can drive back, I’ll just take a taxi,” Liang Shiyun said after some time.

Although she didn’t drink for dinner, she drank a lot at noon. It was not suitable for her to drive, so she took out her cell phone and ordered a taxi.

Chu Xia saw what was happening, and said, “I’ll take you home.”

Chu Xia’s car was parked outside the community. He bought a new black SUV. The brand was a well-known German car brand, but the style was relatively small.

“Get in the car.” Chu Xia took out the key and unlocked it. He opened the navigator door, turned and signaled Liang Shiyun to get in the car.

Liang Shiyun didn’t feel awkward. She got in the car and told him the address.

“Is that the apartment that uncle gave you?” Chu Xia was slightly surprised after hearing the address.

“Yes.” Liang Shiyun nodded.

Liang Shiyun’s place was bought by Liang Lida long before she graduated and before it was built.

Liang Lida said it was a graduation gift for her.

Liang Shiyun joked with Chu Xia that such a big home could be used as a wedding home.

After listening to her, Chu Xia frowned and looked at her: Shiyun, if there are better opportunities after going abroad, I might not come back.

Liang Shiyun thought for a while and wanted to reply to him: Then I have to think carefully about whether I should stay with you when the time comes.

Back then, she hadn’t thought about taking over her father’s company. She was preparing to go abroad to study in graduate school like him. But then something happened.

“Thank you for taking me back.” The 20 minute drive went by in the blink of an eye. Liang Shiyun opened the door after the car stopped.

Chu Xia looked at the tall building outside of the car window. “So, what does it look like? Is it your ideal place?”

“It’s pretty nice.”Liang Shiyun frowned slightly, as if she didn’t know how to describe it.

“Can you take me up there to have a look?” Chu Xia took the opportunity to ask this.

Liang Shiyun slightly moved her hand from the car door. She turned her head to look at him, and after a long while, she replied, “Okay.”

Liang Shiyun took Chu Xia upstairs.

When he first went abroad, Liang Shiyun received this place and she asked him for a lot of opinions about how to decorate it.

It was strange for him to say anything. When Chu Xia first went abroad, he was so busy that he thought that the home would have nothing to do with him. Yet, he still took the time to carefully look through the design plan and give her his opinions.

Chu Xia stood at the door. He watched as the lights turned on to show the apartment.

“The cleaning aunt asked for leave for the next few days, and she didn’t have time to clean up. Don’t laugh.” Liang Shiyun found a pair of new slippers from the cabinet. She took them and brought them to him.

She said it was messy, but the apartment was still tidy and clean. Aside from a few pieces of clothes on the sofa in a dry cleaning cover, a row of sharp high-heeled shoes in the hallway, a half a bottle of red wine, and an open box on the coffee table. There was also a bag of potato chips that she forgot to put away on the kitchen counter…

It was these messy traces that had Chu Xia  imagining Liang Shiyun’s life outside of work.

She didn’t seem to live her life in a neat and orderly manner. She occasionally let go and was indulgent.

This was the same as before.

“Sit wherever you like.” Liang Shiyun picked up the clothes on the sofa.

She put the clothes away in the bedroom, and went to the kitchen to make tea for Chu Xia.

Chu Xia’s eyes moved with her. He surveyed the space. He suddenly saw that the door of a cabinet with a record player next to the TV was not closed properly, and a corner of the record was stuck.

He stood up and opened the door of the cabinet. There were so many vinyl records inside that it filled three drawers. Each of them were old, but neatly arranged from A to Z.

That was one of Liang Shiyun’s few hobbies.

“If you want to listen to something, you can play some music.” Liang Shiyun looked at him from the kitchen.

“I’m fine, I won’t appreciate these like you,” Chu Xia said.

As he spoke, he turned around and leaned against the counter to watch her make tea.

At this time of night, they were only drinking black tea.

Liang Shiyun remembered that a friend had just sent a can of autumn Darjeeling tea not long ago, so she opened the cabinet to get it.

The tea leaves were placed too high, so she had to be on her toes to reach them.

Chu Xia saw that she was struggling, so he reached out to help her.

He was reaching from behind her, and their bodies naturally touched.

As he looked at her fair nape, he couldn’t help it. He hugged her from behind, lowered his head, and kissed her.
