Get Drunk
What’s wrong with me?
After returning to Zhongyou and remembering what happened in the elevator, Yu Huan still felt embarrassed.
It was just a pot of soup. What was she so bothered by what happened?
It happened at the wedding last time, and now this time, too. Why did those words come out of my mouth without thinking?
Yu Huan was having irritating thoughts when the office door was suddenly pushed open. Chen Yilin rushed in and asked, “Lawyer Yu, you’re back? Are you free this evening?”
Yu Huan: “?”
“The Rhona Industries case finally ended today. Although the results have not yet come out, I just saw the Lawyer Fang’s expression in the courtroom today, and there should be no problems with the verdict,” Chen Yilin said. “Tomorrow is the weekend. Why don’t we go celebrate tonight?”
For this case, Chen Yilin served as a specialist and helped a lot.
This was the first case he had completed since his internship started, and it was finally over. Yu Huan looked at him and asked, “How do you want to celebrate?”
Chen Yilin chose a bar.
“So bars in this country look like this.” Chen Yilin sighed.
“You haven’t been to one before?” Yu Huan asked.
“When I lived in New York, I just became an adult.” Chen Yilin shook his head. “The bars over there are not like this.”
Bars in the US were mostly places for dancing, or for simple drinking and chatting. The venues were usually small.
The bar where he and Yu Huan were in now was one of the best in the city.
It was big and noisy.
Inside, there were flickering lights and crowds everywhere. Dance music and the bass filled up every corner, and the performance on the huge stage in the middle was unstoppable.
Chen Yilin was shocked by the “spectacular” atmosphere for a few seconds when he came in.
Yu Huan saw that he looked like he had never seen this part of the world before. She pulled his arm and said, “Let’s go.”
Yu Huan took Chen Yilin to a booth.
“This place is so big.” Chen Yilin once again expressed that he had never seen this before. He immediately went to feel for his wallet to give a tip, only to realize that he had already formed a habit of not bringing any cash with him when he returned to the country.
“Do you have any change on you?” he asked Yu Huan.
“They will take a cut from the check,” Yu Huan clarified.
“Oh, that’s right.” Chen Yilin sat down and naturally ordered a Hennessy+fruit tray+soft drink set meal.
The booth they chose was on the side of the stage. It did not have a wide view, but it was good enough. Yu Huan could see an elegant female DJ on the stage from the side of the pillar.
Yu Huan was not good at drinking and didn’t like dancing. What she did when she went to a bar was quietly watch the performances.
Chen Yilin chose to dance.
At first, he wanted to bring Yu Huan along, but Yu Huan adamantly refused, so he had to go alone.
He was upbeat and handsome, causing many girls to make a move on him.
Chen Yilin was always smiling and talking to them, but his eyes were always watching Yu Huan.
“Can’t you just refuse them?” Yu Huan couldn’t stop her complaint. SHe had been a shield for him once.
“No, if the girls have the courage to start a conversation with me, then I will always give them some dignity,” Chen Yilin said.
Yu Huan asked, “… Do you want to apply for a position as life of the party for the bar?”
Chen Yilin smiled and suddenly asked, “Lawyer Yu, do you really not have a boyfriend?”
He asked a similar question on the first day they met.
Yu Huan didn’t understand why he was so persistent.
“I’m curious.” Chen Yilin sat next to Yu Huan and tapped on her shoulder. He whispered softly, “The man on the right has been watching you.”
“Also, the one in front of you has been paying attention to you for a long time, but you turned them down with one glance.” He finished telling her his observation, and he sat up properly again. He resumed his normal voice and said. “My coworkers at the law firm all say you’re single, but I don’t feel like you are.”
“Maybe it’s because I don’t like men in bars?”
“However, Roger from the office and Eric from Rhone Industries are both interested in you, and I haven’t seen any response from you.”
“…”
“So, do you actually have a partner… or private relationship?”
“No.”
“Then a situationship?”
“… No.”
“Are you being pursued?”
“…”
“Can it be a crush?”
After drinking, Chen Yilin was more gossipy than usual. Yu Huan was a bit overwhelmed and finally said, “He’s a special person.”
Yu Huan simply didn’t want to define Gao Yan as just friends with benefits.
On one hand, she should not speak to Chen Yilin about topics that were inappropriate for such a young person; On the other hand, she didn’t want to admit that Gao Yan was a fuck buddy.
They didn’t just meet up. Occasionally, they also filled each other’s spiritual gaps and got along normally without any sexual urges.
For example, they met up for dinner after a busy day of work. They played basketball and listened to music together on boring weekends. There was even once when she found out that her aunt had arrived early, and he still traveled through most of the city to her home. They ended up sitting down on the sofa and enjoyed a boring movie together.
Although there were not that many moments like that, they did exist.
She sometimes complained about troubles at work to him. Although when he had something bothering him, he was more inclined to use sex to vent it.
But it was essentially the same—they were both trash cans for each other’s emotions.
Yu Huan often didn’t define her relationship with Gao Yan.
Aside from enjoying each other’s body, and the inevitable interactions at work
She actually liked him quite a bit.
Who would maintain a long-term relationship as fuck buddies with someone if they didn’t like them?
Perhaps he also liked her a bit.
Otherwise, the awkward conversation in the elevator today would not have happened.
But words and behavior could all be understood differently by people. Sometimes people tend to believe what they wanted to believe, and those who fell first were likely to suffer a crushing defeat.
The previously suppressed annoyance surged up again. Yu Huan picked up her cup and clinked it with Chen Yilin’s cup, then took a chug.
Chen Yilin: “…”
He was prepared to listen to her story, but in the end, his gossip led to a dead end.
Special person? Who is it?
He was thinking he couldn’t wait for what came next. He looked at the alcohol in front of him, picked it up and downed it.
