Extra 2 – Vacation at the Seaside Part 2
In the evening, the three of them returned to the condo by the beach.
Yu Huan took out the black fish from Gao Yan and Chen Yilin’s loot and prepared them to make braised fish.
Chen Yilin unloaded several bags of groceries purchased from the supermarket into the kitchen. He searched for the ingredients Yu Huan wanted: scallions, ginger, garlic, and cooking wine.
“By the way, Aunt Yu…” Chen Yilin was still not quite used to calling her this. He mouthed it several times before he managed to say it. “I couldn’t find the cooking wine, so is rum fine?”
“It is,” Yu Huan said.
Gao Yan had taken a shower and was in new clothes. He walked into the kitchen and helped Yu Huan with the ingredients she needed as if he was at home.
Chen Yilin put the last box of ice cream into the back of the freezer. “I’m going to take a shower, too.”
Yu Huan glanced up at Chen Yilin going upstairs and said to the man next to her, “Just now Yilin called me aunt, but he doesn’t seem used to it.”
“He’ll get used to it after saying it a few times,” Gao Yan said. “It’ll happen sooner or later.”
He washed the vegetables and placed them in a strainer next to him. He took the knife from Yu Huan’s hand and said, “Let me do it. Just tell me how to cut it.”
“Okay, first cut open the belly and take out all the internal organs.” Yu Huan stepped aside to order him.
Gao Yan carefully cut open a few fish, and took out the internal organs and gills. He washed and dried them. Then he made cuts based on another fish she had cut.
A few months ago, he didn’t know how to cut a potato evenly. Now, he could handle a fish from her steps.
The whole process was done steadily.
Yu Huan had to take a photo and send it to her Moments with the other photos from today.
After a while, she received a like from Lin Su.
In the second year of high school, Lin Su and Gao Yan began to date. Yu Huan and Lin Su gradually drifted apart, and eventually were no longer in contact during college.
Yu Huan added Lin Su on WeChat during their class reunion after graduating college. Apart from their first greeting, there would be holiday messages.
Gradually, there weren’t any messages sent.
Lin Su’s Moments rarely had anything posted. If it hadn’t been for the sudden like, Yu Huan would have thought that she had deleted her.
“What’s after rubbing in the salt?” Gao Yan turned around and asked Yu Huan. He saw that she was in a daze. “What’s the matter?”
“I just put a photo of you on my Moments, and Lin Su gave me a like.” Yu Huan handed her cell phone to him.
Yu Huan only took a side photo of him, so she was not sure if Lin Su could recognize him.
Lin Su rarely liked anything on Moments. Yu Huan had to show Gao Yan.”
“Lin Su? Your high school classmate?”
Gao Yan frowning once he saw it.
“Yeah.” Yu Huan nodded.
When Lin Su began to drift away from her in high school, Yu Huan once thought about if it was because she was busy with studying so she neglected their friendship.
Later, when Yu Huan went through university and started to work, she met a lot of people like Lin Su. Yu Huan gradually came to understand why Lin Su behaved the way she did.
However, Gao Yan’s words still surprised Yu Huan.
“What do you mean? I thought she was your first love.
Gao Yan had a hard time explaining.
If he knew back then that he would have a chance with Yu Huan later in life, then it would have been impossible for him to have a relationship with Lin Su, no matter what the reason was.
“I noticed you much earlier than I knew her,” he said helplessly.
He was implying that Yu Huan was his first love.
Yu Huan remembered the love letter he had hidden for more than ten years.
He thought back to the WeChat message that she gave him to read. Almost all the contacts had a note about what company or position they had. They were labeled as customers, partners, etc. He was the only one in her contact list with a star and the label was family.
How could she remember Lin Su?
“Let’s fry the fish.”
Yu Huan put her phone aside. She took a pan and cleaned it before placing it on the induction stove.
Gao Yan poured oil into the pan according to Yu Huan’s instructions. When the oil was hot, he put in scallions, ginger, and garlic, and then added the fermented black paste.
There was a sizzling sound followed by a burning smell.
Gao Yan held the handle of the pan in one hand and carefully turned the fish over using chopsticks with the other hand.
“Cook it like this.” Yu Huan held his chopsticks from behind and guided him with the heat.
“Aunt, do you need help?” Chen Yilin came out after taking a shower and had entered the kitchen when they were hugging each other.
“Please set the table. We don’t need your help here in the kitchen,” Gao Yan ordered him.
Chen Yilin quickly left.
After Chen Yilin left, Yu Huan put her head on Gao Yan’s back. “Let’s get married.”
“What did you say?” Gao Yan couldn’t hear her over the frying fish.
“I said let’s get married,” Yu Huan repeated. She pressed against his back and placed her hands around his waist, repeating.
After Gao Yan gave her the ring, she said it was too soon. Thus, he had been waiting for her.
After thinking about it, she realized that they had known each other for a long time and had seen each other in various states. She could rely on him, sleep in his arms, and look forward to their future together.
She thought that it was time.
“Chen Yilin is already calling me aunt, and I’m embarrassed since we’re not married,” she said as an excuse.
“Have you really considered it?” Gao Yan turned around.
“Yes.” Yu Huan nodded and tiptoed up to put her hands around Gao Yan’s neck.
“Okay, we’ll get married when we get back.” Gao Yan immediately agreed with ehr and leaned over to kiss her.
The sun came down in the west, and the white waves crashed onto the beach.
They exchanged a deep kiss as their vow in the soft glow of the sunset.
