Neighbors

As he faced Gao Yan’s probing eyes, Chu Xia changed the subject and brought the topic back to business. “I’ve thought about it. I  just want to concentrate on designing.”

He didn’t want outsiders to know the details of his relationship with Liang Shiyun.

Especially when Gao Yan had pursued Liang Shiyun back then. Even though they were friends, he was selfish when it was something related to her.

“Okay, I respect your decision.” Gao Yan sighed, but still didn’t give up. “Since you are not interested in starting a business, why don’t you be the main designer of my project?”

“Main designer?”

“Yeah, think about it.”

After talking with Gao Yan, Chu Xia did not receive any messages from Liang Shiyun for several days.

It was like she had completely forgotten about him.

He sent a message asking her about the follow-up of the resort project. She replied to him two hours later, with a very businesslike tone.

He joked that she was very busy. She replied with a yes, and then there was no further comment.

What are you up to? Aside from business, what personal things do you have going on?

Chu Xia wanted to ask these questions, but after several years of absence, he didn’t know what was going on with her, and he didn’t know how to cut in if he wanted to ask. He couldn’t ask her if she was talking to that doctor, right?

Chu Xia clicked on Liang Shiyun’s Moments, and carefully browsed through her activities over the years.

Most of them were about the projects her company has completed with another company. There were some reports about real estate industry events. There were very few things about her personal life, and there was nothing that revealed her love life.

The only status that revealed some clues was a video with a beautiful beach setting. There was a short shot of Liang Shiyun wearing a long skirt and the waves on the beach.

The sunset glow in the sky was like oil painted fire. The blue sea water met the sky, and wave after wave landed on the fine sand beach. Liang Shiyun was standing at the end of a wave. She turned her head and smiled.

This scene, in Chu Xia’s opinion, was from a particularly boyfriend’s perspective.

Who took that video of her?

She said that she hadn’t had a boyfriend in the past few years, so who did she go on vacation with?

Chu Xia looked through Moments, but couldn’t find any clues. He returned to the comments, and typed, “Where is this! It’s beautiful!” He wanted to send it, but then saw that the video was posted more than half a year ago. The comment was deleted.

After a few years of absence, what separated them was not time nor distance, but the ignorance of each other’s lives.

After closing the app, Chu Xia called Gao Yan.

The phone was picked up, and before Gao Yan could speak, he got straight to the point, “I can be the main designer of your project. However, I have one condition.”

Gao Yan was very efficient with his tasks.

On the second day after the phone call, Chu Xia moved into Liang Shiyun’s community.

After directing the workers to move in his things and to unpack them, Chu Xia sent a message to Liang Shiyun, “Are there any restaurants you recommend near your community?”

When this message was sent, Liang Shiyun was in a meeting.

Restaurants?

Several popped up in Liang Shiyun’s mind. Her brain, which had been working all morning, couldn’t figure out why Chu Xia asked about the restaurants near her home.

“President?” The secretary next to her called her out carefully.

“Cough cough.” Liang Shiyun coughed lightly, and looked away from the phone. “Continue.”

She put the phone away and listened carefully to the report.

She was busy all day long, it was already one o’clock in the evening when she finally got home. As for the message from Chu Xia, she had already forgotten about it.

The next day, Liang Shiyun got up to do morning exercises as usual.

Before going out, she looked at the woman in the mirror. She was 28 years old, and she was not young anymore. It was completely different from her youth in college, so she had to rely on exercise for maintenance.

She jogged along the park in the community.

The morning air was refreshing. She went to the small bridge by the river and did some stretching. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Chu Xia also wearing exercise clothes.

He was wearing simple sportswear that simply displayed his muscular and powerful figure. The hair at the temples was wet with sweat, and the short white sleeves were soaked with sweat. It revealed the color of his skin and the thick body lines faintly. It made her think of how wonderful it felt touching him during those two nights.

“Why are you here?” Liang Shiyun asked as she dismissed those inappropriate thoughts.

She struggled to control her attention. She kept her eyes above his neck.

“I agreed to be Gao Yan’s main designer for the coworking space project. He saw that since I don’t have a place to live, he has an apartment here that happens to be vacant, and he can rent it to me.”

Chu Xia wiped off her sweat with a towel and he turned to Liang Shiyun. “You live here too, so now we’re neighbors.”

Liang Shiyun reacted immediately. No wonder he was asking me about nearby restaurants yesterday.

Although this neighborhood was a nice one, it was a little far away from Leshang and the city center. Gao Yan should have more than this vacant apartment in the city, right?

Having been in business for a long time, Liang Shiyun had learned to pretend to be confused. Without revealing anything, she just asked, “How long has it been since you’ve lived here?”

“Not long.” Chu Xia shook his head. “I moved all my things yesterday.”

“Then let me show you around. There are many restaurants in this area, but I don’t know if they’ll suit your taste.”
