第 39 章
Lunch
Gao Yan had met Liang Shiyun’s father before. Chu Xia made a special effort to inquire about her father’s preferences, and after asking some married friends about their experiences in meeting the parents, he finally had an idea in mind of how it would go.
This weekend was the Dragon Boat Festival. Chu Xia brought tea and mountain delicacies bought from Gao Yan, and after tidying himself carefully, he and Liang Shiyun went to visit Liang Lida.
When they arrived, it was almost noon. Father LIang and the stepmother were already waiting. They got out of the car, and the stepmother quickly told them to go in first.
Chu Xia took the gifts out from the back seat. With a smile that the elders would like, he called them uncle and aunt as soon as he saw them.
This was the first time Chu Xia saw Liang Shiyun’s stepmother. She looked like a gentle woman with warm and clear eyebrows. She looked completely different from the capable and serious Fang Yuan.
As for Father Liang, Chu Xia met him from a distance many years ago. He was a typical businessman who looked easy-going but shrewd.
It had been a few years, but he looked much older, and his energy was not as good as before. Maybe this was why Liang Shiyun had to take over the company and shoulder the burden.
The four of them entered the room together, and the servants helped take the things off of Chu Xia’s hand, and announced in the living room that the guests had come.
Chu Xia looked around, only to find that Liang Yi was there too. He was playing with his cell phone on the sofa with a sullen face.
“This is Shiyun’s younger brother, Xiao Yi.” The stepmother didn’t know what had happened in the apartment. She beckoned Chu Xia to sit down, she walked over and patted Liang Yi, telling him to get up and greet them.
“Sister, you’re back.” Liang Yi raised his head, greeted her, then got up and went to the bathroom.
It was as if Chu Xia did not exist this entire time.
“This kid just came back from vacation and is still jet-lagged.” The stepmother laughed.
Chu Xia had no choice but to smile. “It’s fine.”
The four chatted in the living room for a while and ate some fruit. The servant came over and said lunch was ready.
The stepmother quickly called everyone over to eat. At the dinner table, Father Liang sat at the head, Chu Xia sat at the end, Liang Shiyun sat across from Chu Xia, and Liang Yi sat next to her.
“Mr. Chu is not from this city, right? I don’t know if you are used to the food here. It seems like you eat spicy food over there.” There was a large table of dishes on the table, and the stepmother stood up and placed some spicy food in front of Chu Xia.
“Aunt can call me Xiao Chu. I’m not picky, I’ll eat anything.” Chu Xia quickly reached out to help. “Besides, I heard Shiyun say that your cooking is very good.”
“There are some people who aren’t picky and want to try everything.” Liang Yi interrupted suddenly. “Life is not a supermarket. You can look at everything to compare, pick and choose, and you can buy the ingredients you want later—”
“Drink some soup.” Liang Shiyun put the freshly filled soup in front of him, signaling him to stop talking nonsense.
Liang Yi stopped talking. It just so happened that Father Liang suggested that everyone raise their glasses together
“Dad, you can’t drink,” Liang Shiyun immediately reminded him. Liang Lida had undergone a tumor resection before, and his body was not recovering well.
“Drink, drink.” Liang Lida lifted his glass.
Liang Shi then toasted. She was going to drive after this, so the same amount of liquid was in the glass. However, it was different for Chu Xia’s glass. Liang Lida had opened a bottle of white wine for him.
Everyone picked up their glasses and clinked. They smiled and wished each other a happy Dragon Boat Festival.
It was said that wine was a bridge of communication between men. Although Liang Lida could no longer drink alcohol, his habits did not change. At the next round of food, he clinked glasses with Chu Xia again.
Chu Xia could only accompany him to drink cup by cup. He answered every question seriously, and before he knew it, the bottle of white wine ran out.
He hadn’t drank white wine for a long time, and he was slightly dizzy, so he rubbed his temples with his hands.
“Dad, eat more food—” Liang Shiyun frowned upon seeing this, glanced at the servant who came to change the wine bottle, and signaled her to stop.
Liang Yi looked and snorted softly, then suddenly began to stir the chicken soup with a spoon.
This behavior was somewhat rude.
It was in front of the guests, so the stepmother couldn’t let it go. She asked him in a low voice, “What are you looking for?”
“Chicken hearts.”
“But you don’t eat offal?”
“A person should eat what they lack.”
“?”
“I found one for my sister, and I’ll have her eat it.”
Liang Shiyun: “…”
Lunch went by with Liang Lida and Chu Xia’s Q&A session and Liang Yi’s strange comments from time to time.
Chu Xia drank a little too much. After dinner, Liang Shiyun helped him to the guest room to rest.
The stepmother mixed a cup of warm water with honey and gave it to him. After drinking it, Chu Xia felt a little sleepy. He fell asleep on the bed, and woke up with the realization that the sun was in the west. It was already four o’clock in the afternoon.
The room and the hallway outside were quiet. Chu Xia got up and searched for LIang Shiyun but didn’t see her. When he passed by the tea room downstairs, he saw Liang Lida who was making tea.
“Are you awake? Shiyun is busy with Xiao Yi.” Liang Lida waved to Chu Xia. “Come here, drink tea with me.”
Chu Xia walked into the tea room and realized that Father Liang was making Pu’er, which was very popular.
He placed the teacup in front of him. The tea exuded a faint fragrance like flowers and honey. Chu Xia took a small sip of the tea, and he could tell it was good tea, but he couldn’t say exactly how good it was.
Fortunately, Liang Lida didn’t ask him this, but only asked. “After sleeping, are you still dizzy?”
“… I’m fine.”
“I’m sorry for making you drink so much at noon.” Liang Lida said, “But, I just want to see your tolerance.”
“…” Chu Xia didn’t know how to answer these words, so he had to continue drinking tea.
“My health hasn’t been very good for the past few years. The company has been supported by Shiyun.” Liang Lida saw that his cup was empty, and poured it for him again. “She has a strong personality, and sometimes it makes you feel worn out, right?”
“How can that be?” Chu Xia knocked on the table with his fingers and quickly denied it.
Liang Lida laughed. He poured himself a cup, and then slowly put it down after drinking:.“Truthfully, she was not like this before.”
