Speaking from the Heart

Chu Xia opened his mouth, and a question finally rolled out of his throat, “What did I say?”

“Love things.”

“?”

“It was chaotic, but you said a lot of sappy things—” Liang Shiyun raised her eyes, her expression was cold and serious. “I almost cried.”

Chu Xia: “…”

His head was still a little dizzy, and he really couldn’t recall what sappy words he said. But it sounded like it was a bit embarrassing, but now he didn’t care anymore

“What about you?” He asked, grabbing her. “What was your reaction?”

“I miss you a lot. What about you?” Since it was already said, shouldn’t he say it again?

When he said it again, his voice was even more hoarse. The hand holding her trembled slightly as he anxiously waited for her to respond. .

Liang Shiyun was surprised for a while before saying, “I was just joking.”

Chu Xia called last night. She had just stepped onto the boarding aisle. She answered the phone while walking, and it took a while to realize that she couldn’t hear him talking

At first she thought the signal was bad. After she sat down, the surroundings became quiet, and she realized that there was a voice on the other side, with a very shallow breathing sound. There was a “clang” sound similar to the sound of a wine glass hitting the table, and she realized that he might be drunk.

“You didn’t say anything until I was boarding the plane,” Liang Shiyun said truthfully. She looked like she couldn’t hold off from being affected by Chu Xia’s sudden confession. She looked away, coughed and said, “You must be hungry, I’ll go and see if I can order you something to eat.”

After she finished speaking, she was about to get up, but Chu Xia hugged her.

He had a feeling that if he didn’t seize this chance, he was not going to have another chance in the future.

“But I’m serious,” Chu Xia hugged Liang Shiyun strongly, and said in a hoarse voice. “I really miss you. DId you know? Just now I dreamed of you.”

“Shiyun, do you still remember that you cooked me dumplings in the dormitory? And that year we went on a trip together? And you made me a cake for the first time? I kept dreaming about the past. I dreamed about you when we were in college. You looked into my eyes that were shining, and you always trusted me unconditionally… I did not understand how precious your eyes and trust were until I went abroad. After experiencing more in life, I realized that I was pursuing an ideal, when something even more precious had been abandoned by me…”

Chu Xia had never said these words to Liang Shiyun.

He has never been a sentimental person, and had always believed that doing was more important than talking.

When Chu Xia reunited with Liang Shiyun after returning to the country, he had planned to follow Gao Yan’s advice and tell her the real reason for his return and how important she was to him—but because of what Father LIang said, he felt that words were too weak, so he decided to prove himself with practical actions.

Unexpectedly, the most genuine regrets and feelings buried in his heart were finally said under such circumstances.

Chu Xia confessed to her. From the few years when he went abroad to the decision to return to the country after the pandemic, to the time when Liang Shiyun left

His throat was already dry, and when he finished speaking, his throat was about to burn.

“Shiyun, can you give me another chance?” He asked the last sentence in a hoarse voice, but he didn’t get a response from Liang Shiyun for a long time. He didn’t let her go. He held her in his arms, trying to make her face him, but she refused to let him turn her around.

While he was trying, something seemed to drip down the back of his hand. He raised his hand, and saw it was a crystal clear liquid.

“Are you crying?” Chu Xia panicked immediately, and hurriedly walked to the front of Liang Shiyun.

Liang Shiyun quickly wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, and when she met Chu Xia’s eyes, her expression had returned to her usual indifference. Only her eyes were slightly red.

“I… did I say something wrong?” Chu Xia asked.

But he didn’t know what part he said was wrong. He stared at Liang Shiyun nervously, reached to grab the tissues next to the bed, and carefully pulled it over to her.

He had just recovered from a high fever. With an unshaven beard, messy hair, dark circles under his eyes, thick eyebrows furrowed into knots…

Liang Shiyun looked at him, frowned, and then chuckled. “You should wash your face first.”

After laying in bed for nearly a day and a night, Chu Xia felt that he smelled all over, so he took a shower.

When he came out, he saw Liang Shiyun cooking congee in the kitchen.

She cooked millet congee. The golden rice grains were boiled until thick, bursting out gentle bubbles from time to time. Liang Shiyun stirred the spoon and stood in the rising heat. It was as beautiful as a dream.

Sensing Chu Xia behind her, Liang Shiyun was the first to break the silence. “It will be done in a while.”

“Why were you crying just now?” Chu Xia asked her.

Liang Shiyun paused while holding the spoon. The bubbling sound from the pot suddenly became more intense.

Liang Shiyun’s voice became extremely gentle.

“I’ve thought about it,” she said. “Although two years is not short, compared to our next forty or fifty years, it will be short—”

She stirred the congee in the pot again. She was considering her words, and after a while, she said softly, “We have open minded parents, and we are independent. As long as we persevere, being in a different place is not an obstacle we can’t overcome, right??”

After she finished speaking, she looked at him, as if asking for his answer.

“Of course,” Chu Xia said without hesitation, but he still couldn’t believe it

Even though he confessed just now, even though he was looking forward to this moment in his dreams, he never thought it would be that easy to get back together, let alone Liang Shiyun being the one who spoke up first.

“Have you really figured it out?” he asked.

“Yeah.” Liang Shiyun nodded. Her eyes went back to the stirring spoon. She said in a voice as soft as a whisper, “I thought I wouldn’t love you after being separated by an ocean, and I have always believed that. But just now, I realized I was wrong.”

As she spoke, the corners of her lips twitched in a critical manner, but under the curled eyelashes there was a faint glint of water.

In an instant, Chu Xia understood everything.

Love surged in his heart. He stepped forward and hugged her tightly, as if he wanted to melt her into his own flesh and blood

“No matter what happens this time, I won’t let go,” he said.

The person in his arms was slightly stunned. Then he felt her face pressed against his chest as she slowly reached to hug him back.
