第 27 章
Good Sister
In April, Cheng Qiao got married to Fang Yizheng, a college classmate.
This was the only “college couple” in Liang Shiyun’s class. They had been in love for ten years and finally entered the marriage hall. The students in their class sent blessings, but because many of them lived in other provinces, there were not many who had time to go.
Liang Shiyun was busy too.
She and Cheng Qiao were roommates in college, and they have kept in touch after graduation. Their relationship was much closer than that of ordinary classmates.
Since Cheng Qiao’s wedding date was set in the spring, she made arrangements and freed up a few days for it.
The wedding venue was at a typical inn area with a scenic spot outside the city.
The verdant forest was stylish and away from the city vibes. It’s close to nature—these were Cheng Qiao’s words. After attending the wedding, everyone could take a vacation to relax.
As a member of the friend group and a bridesmaid, Liang Shiyun had to help out.
She went up the mountain to the address given by Cheng Qiao. She soon saw a B&B in the middle of the mountain. It was a single-family style house, and the overall building was designed with a wooden structure. Behind it was a huge forest backyard. They said that it was a professor’s design.
Cheng Qiao’s aesthetics and taste had not changed at all.
She asked the driver to stop the car. Liang Shiyun didn’t rush to check in, but started to walk around.
This was probably a common problem for students who majored in architecture. When they saw architecture, they had to study it.
And unexpectedly, when she walked around to the yard, she bumped into Chu Xia who still had his luggage on him.
“You’re here too?”
“Yeah, Yizheng asked me to come and help.”
“Have you seen both of them?”
“Not yet, this place is quite unique. I wanted to take a look first.”
“Yes, mortise and tenon structures made of pure solid wood are rare now.”
…………
They talked for a while, and then they walked together. Before entering, they heard a dispute.
“Fang Yizheng, how can you do that?! I already told you that I asked Shiyun to be my bridesmaid, so why do you want to ask Chu Xia to be your groomsmen?”
The voice is loud. It was definitely Cheng Qiao.
“What do you mean? Something came up at the last moment, so I’m missing a groomsman. I had to find someone to take over and it just so happened that Chu Xia was free…”
At the beginning, he was very aggressive, but then his voice dropped. It was Fang Yizheng.
Fang Yizheng faced Cheng Qiao, who was stone faced for less than three seconds. “Yes, I know that they had such a past, but it was 800 years ago, so it wouldn’t be—didn’t they break up peacefully?”
“Breakup peacefully? Is it really a peaceful breakup because they didn’t fight? Hmph, he was the one who ended it!” Cheng Qiao was still resentful. “You didn’t see Shiyun back then, she lost ten pounds in one month. If Chu Xia wasn’t abroad, I would have definitely gone to his door and blown up his head!”
“You said that he was abroad… Shiyun chose to give up going abroad, so what do you think Chu Xia should have done? Long distance while being in a foreign country is not realistic.”
“You can understand him very well, don’t you?”
“…”
“You men are too realistic. If everything is going fine, you’ll be super affectionate and being romantic is a must. But when things get hard, you’ll say it’s not working out, then you’ll back off, turn around, and find another girl—”
“Chu Xia hasn’t dated anyone.”
“How do you know he didn’t date another girl?”
“I…”
“Oh… no wonder he came to help you, is he trying to turn things around with Shiyun? Fang Yizheng, I warn you, you are not allowed to help Chu Xia, otherwise—“
“Otherwise what?”
“Otherwise, let’s not have this marriage.”
“…”
They walked through the backyard into the woods while arguing.
“They are still the same,” Liang Shiyun complained.
Chu Xia suddenly stopped and turned to look at her. “Did that really happen?”
His eyebrows were deeply furrowed into a frown. There was a bit of guilt and hesitation in his eyes, as if he didn’t know how to speak.
“Don’t listen to Cheng Qiao, she’s always exaggerating.” Liang Shiyun knew what he wanted to ask. She stopped and said, “It was all in the past.”
The wedding was not going to be held until the next day. The first to arrive were the bridal party, plus some relatives. There were only a few groups.
At the lunch table, Cheng Qiao pulled Liang Shiyun and asked her about her love life.
“No,” Liang Shiyun was very direct.
“I’m not talking about you. You’re not that young anymore, so hurry up and find someone, okay? Do you really want to die alone?” Cheng Qiao asked.
“Where can I find someone?” Liang Shiyun questioned. “You don’t know how busy I am now and I don’t have time.”
Cheng Qiao interrupted her, “Excuses! If you want to find someone, why wouldn’t you be able to?”
She pulled her to look at the opposite table, “Look, those are all Fang Yizheng’s brothers over there, except for the one wearing glasses. That one his hairline doesn’t look like it’ll last. The others are unmarried. Take a look, are there any you like?”
Liang Shiyun: “…”
“Life can’t be all about your career,” Cheng Qiao said. “What do you think of that one? The one in blue clothes. Although Yizheng’s cousin is two years younger than you, his background is good. He has a car and used to be on the provincial swimming team. He’s now a sports—”
“I don’t like athletes.”
“What’s wrong with athletes? Exercise is good for male hormones.”
“Here’s why.” Liang Shiyun pointed to her head.
“Stop!” Cheng Qiao pursed her lips, and just glanced at Chu Xia who was nearby. “Most men with good brains are pretty much scumbags.”
In the afternoon, everyone helped to arrange the wedding venue together.
For the wedding, Cheng Qiao was the planner. She bought all the decorations, and designed all kinds of small things by herself. The workload was heavy, but everything was completed according to the plan. The photo wall was made of branches, the umbrellas were filled with “clouds”, the flower arrangements were made with wooden blocks… Everyone helped put the decorations together.
Liang Shiyun had practiced beautiful calligraphy since she was a child, so Cheng Qiao planned for her to write road signs by hand.
Fang Yizheng’s cousin, Qi Fan, was to assist Liang Shiyun.
“You guys go together. Shiyun is in charge of writing, and you will put it up for her.” Cheng Qiao’s reasoning for this was: “You are tall.”
But after an afternoon, anyone with a good eye could see what Cheng Qiao was thinking. She was trying to match Liang Shiyun and Qi Fan.
“…” Liang Shiyun glanced at the crowd, and happened to see Chu Xia. “There is another guy who is taller. Why don’t you let him go?”
She didn’t want Chu Xia to go with her, but she was a little speechless about Cheng Qiao’s strange and stubborn behavior.
Chu Xia was not assigned a task, so he agreed. “I’ll go with you—”
“Hey—”Cheng Qiao grabbed Chu Xia and put the video camera in his hand. “No, you have something more important to do.”
