Heavy Rain

Cheng Qiao’s so-called important task was to let Chu Xia shoot the preparations.

The professional photography team was not going to come until the day of the wedding, so Chu Xia had no choice but to walk around with the video camera. After walking for a while, a dark cloud suddenly gathered in the clear sky.

“Isn’t it going to rain? The weather forecast didn’t say that.”

“It’s okay, there is a Plan B.”

Since it was an outdoor wedding, they had to be prepared to deal with all emergencies.

Cheng Qiao directed everyone to get back to work, but just after a while, a strong wind suddenly blew through the mountains. The dark sky turned into a heavy lead gray. Droplets started to hit the leaves—it was raining.

“Let’s talk about it after the rain stops.”

Everyone quickly packed up and retreated to the B&B. As soon as they went in, there was a burst of thunder, and dense raindrops fell. The slow rain suddenly turned into a torrential rainstorm.

The two people who went out to post road signs have not returned yet.

Chu Xia stood on the balcony and dialed Liang Shiyun’s number, but was prompted with “the number is not in a service area”. He waited for a while, then redialed, but it was still not available.

He called Cheng Qiao downstairs and asked her for Qi Fan’s phone number. Just as he spoke, he suddenly saw a figure rushing out of the rain, holding his hands over his head and rushing into the B&B.

Chu Xia hurried downstairs, just in time to see Qi Fan wiping his hair with a towel.

“Where is Shiyun?” he asked.

“Has she not come back yet?” Qi Fan dried his hair and wiped his ears with the towel.

“Isn’t she with you?” Cheng Qiao heard him from the other side.

Qi Fan stopped moving. “I thought she came back first.”

In the afternoon, when they were putting up the signs, his cell phone rang suddenly. It was the leader of the bureau looking for him, and he had a task for him.

The signal in the mountains was not good, so he walked around and found a place with a slightly better signal. He carefully confirmed the leader’s explanation, and when he went back, Liang Shiyun was gone.

“The pen and paper were not there so I thought she went to the next point, and I followed her—” Qi Fan explained. “But I didn’t see anyone. I saw that it was going to rain, so I came back.”

“She hasn’t come back yet?” Qi Fan asked, and went upstairs to knock on the door of Liang Shiyun’s room.

Chu Xia and Cheng Qiao also followed.

The door was unlocked, Qi Fan knocked on the door a few more times and pushed it open. There was no one inside. It was as if Liang Shiyun had just checked in this morning. The suitcase was half-opened beside the bed.

Cheng Qiao didn’t give up. She glanced at the bathroom, but there was no one there either.

“Ugh, it’s raining so hard, she can’t be outside.” Cheng Qiao quickly called Liang Shiyun.

Like Chu Xia, she got the same message about the service area.

“She should be looking for a place to hide from the rain, or she is already on her way back…” Qi Fan said, not knowing whether to comfort Cheng Qiao or himself. “I’ll go downstairs and have a look.”

“How far did you walk?” Chu Xia held him back. “What I mean is where did you answer the phone call and when did you not see her?”

“We went the long way…” Qi Fan started to recall.

After hearing this, Chu Xia turned and went downstairs.

When Cheng Qiao chased after him, Chu Xia was already asking the front desk of the inn to borrow a raincoat and a flashlight.

“You want to go out to find Shiyun? Wait a little longer. If she doesn’t come back in a while, everyone will look for her together.” Cheng Qiao glanced at the torrential rain outside that didn’t intend to stop. She didn’t think it was a good idea for Chu Xia to go out now even though she was also worried about Liang Shiyun.

“Let’s wait a little longer, maybe she will come back soon. Or maybe she will come back when the rain stops. She’s an adult, she knows to take cover when it rains,” she said.

“Of course she knows how to take cover.” Chu Xia took the raincoat and put it on. “But your cousin said she walked away suddenly, I think she isn’t feeling well.”

He frowned and glanced outside again. “Especially in such heavy rain.”

Then, Cheng Qiao remembered the pack of pads that had been opened in Liang Shiyun’s room.

“The bathroom just now… Did you see it?” She asked.

“Yes,” Chu Xia responded.

Not only did he see it, but there was also a reminder on his cell phone that the next few days happened to be Liang Shiyun’s period.
